Hello and welcome! Thanks for taking the time to get to know me :).
My name is Jake Petersen and I am an aspiring digital artist and graphic designer. I
graduated from Framingham State University with a bachelors in studio art, choosing
to concentrate in graphic design.
In my art I like to explore themes related to science, technology, and the mystical aspects
of nature. I am constantly drawn to discovering new perspectives on reality and hope to inspire
others to do the same through my art. Nostalgia is a recurring theme in my work, as I am deeply
influenced by the era in which I grew up and the untamed and innocent world of the early internet in the 2000s.
I am particularly drawn to the rawness and authenticity of initial attempts or rough drafts, as they often contain
the most original and heartfelt ideas. This is one of the many reasons I host my site on Neocities.com. This community
heavily identifies with early internet culture and I appreciate the renaissance moment we are having :).
I love to play games in my free time. Some current notable entries on the list include World of Warcraft, CS:S Surf, and Fortnite. I have loved games since I was a wee lad and would waste months of time on my favorite flash game websites. One game I will never forget is U.B. Funkeys. I was enamored by the graphic identity when I was a kid and still am to this day. It mirrored the energy of my childhood perfectly.
My fashion interest started in high school. I was so interested in fashion that I went to Arizona State University for a year and majored in fashion design, but figured out I like graphic design more, so I transferred schools and switched my major. I adore the archive fashion scene, and am very intrigued by brands like Vetements, 20471120, and Undercover.
Music is very important to me and always has been. I have interest in many genres, including but not limited to, braindance, vaporwave, and underground rap. My taste is ever evolving, journeying into new weird territories. Some artists I have picked up and never dropped are Bladee, Internet Club, and International Telecom. I absolutely love anything idiosyncratic. Some new artists I have given a shot are Bull of Heaven, Fresh Jame, and Brennan Jones.
Science has always taken up a massive amount of bandwidth in my brain. I can’t help but wonder about the nature of our reality and postulate about metaphysical properties that work together to generate our existence. String theory and quantum mechanics intrigue me to no end because they exist at the bleeding edge of what we currently understand. These subjects appear in my work quite frequently.
This is what I concentrated in for my degree. I am fluent with the Adobe Suite and have lots of knowledge with page layout, design hierarchy, and color theory. Throughout my time at Framingham State, I made many projects that expanded my knowledge of design and challenged me in different ways. I love to design and make fake brands as well as make digital art with Photoshop and Blender.
I started with three dimensional design in high school with the program Cinema 4D. I quickly fell in love with the complexity of the software and could not stop myself from trying tutorials I had seen on YouTube to try and improve my skill. In college I started working in the program Blender and found my bearings quickly because of my previous experience. Throughout my time in college, I would try and incorporate Blender into as many projects as possible. My peers were intrigued with my work, as all of my knowledge is self-taught and the professors were only teaching how to use the Adobe Suite in class.
I first became interested in web design when I was in middle school. Actually, I became very interested in coding in general and would frequetly make my own basic websites in plain text documents on my desktop. I also enjoyed tinkering with my Ardiuno, programming the chip and breadboard to do all kinds of alluring things. I attended a summer camp at Keefe Technical School in Framingham where I learned much more about my curiosities at the time. In high school I took a web design elective where I made a few websites and learned about styling and layout. In college I took an independent study with my branding and identity design teacher. I learned a ton of advanced concepts like flexbox and how to use javascript. I made websites with drag and drop functionality, and even a website where an animation would play if the user scrolled down the page. I learned how to translate brand identity into web format as well. Overall I have had a lot of fun on my design journey!
You made it to the end! I can't believe it. Thank you so much for taking interest in me. I would love to hear from you! Yes, you :) Email me @ petersenjake1@gmail.com, I don’t bite.
