In this project I was tasked to work individually or collaboratively in mounting a “guerilla-style” or “pop-up” exhibition, zine or other type of print or online publication, happening, performance or other alternative exhibition event. I used the AI tool Midjourney to produce my images that I then posted to Instagram.
I created these with a very specific method since I wanted to create a series that went together. First, I set aside a folder of original images that were not made using AI. They consisted of textures and random images I found surfing the internet. I used the /blend feature to combine images into hybrids. I would then save the hybrids I liked and experiment combining those with the base images using the ‘vary strong’ and ‘vary weak’ commands as well as re-submitting old favorable prompts with different images to see if they would produce the same favorable image but slightly different.
After hours of this work I produced six triptychs, each with one central image and two accompanying textures or backgrounds, and scrapped one because it was not visually similar enough to the final five.
